Critic #1: Monica

Emulation feedback: She thought these two versions of relationships really matches my color model. She preferred the ones that have pandas, and icons because it can directly make her to know the relationships is about panda. And she also thinks the version 1 is very simple and elegant. So, she suggest me to maybe add the panda icon next to the version 1 to make it more obvious about panda.

I added the panda icon next to he giant panda track to make the relationship more obvious about panda. Therefore, the relationship image for now is much more stand out for the theme of panda, and matches my visual model.

Critic #2: Kelley

Emulation feedback: She liked both of them. She preferred the version 2 because it has the panda icon and it can make her to know it is about panda. And the version 2 has a lot of shapes and color differences which makes the relationship hard to follow. She suggest me to choose the version 1 as the basic and might add more panda icons to make the theme more stand out. And she also suggest that the dashed line can be longer to look better.

I added the panda icon to the version 2 of the relationship and made the dashed line of the text for the ursinae track of bear longer to make it looks not as tight as before.

Critic #3: Stephanie

Emulation feedback: She preferred the version 1 because it is clear and easy to follow with the dashed lines. For the version 2, she thought it is a bit harder to see the central element than the version one. And she thought these two versions both matches my color model. She suggest me to combine both of these versions. So, maybe I could add more icons to the version 1 to make it less flat and the theme can stand out more.

By adding the panda icon next to the giant panda did make the relationship graph looks less flat, and the theme of this relationship can be more obvious. In addition, combining these two version is clean and clear to see the relationship, and also in an elegant way.

Critic #1: Stephanie

Emulation feedback: She really liked the panda icon next to the text. She thought for the lower right part, adding an icon of raccoon might make the relationship display less empty. And the leaf on the bamboo's right is a little longer than other leaves on the left. She also suggested to add another picture of panda or the side view icons of the panda would be better. In addition, she suggest to add a box to the ancestral carnivals to make it more stand out.

I changed the leaves on the bamboo to be less long stretched, and looks more similar to all the other leaves. In addition, I added the side view of a panda and bamboo icon with no details and outlines to match more like my visual language model. And I tried to add a box around the ancestral ursidae, but it looks weird, so I didn't change it.

Critic #2: Elysi

Emulation feedback: She thought the relationship looked very clear, and the lay out horizontally is also very cool. She thought the panda icon and the dashed lines matched my visual language model icons. She suggested me to add some banners to the central root part tag might be better.

I didn't add the banner to the central root part because it looks too much, but I added the banner to the title on the top to show the topic about the relationship. And it makes the viewer realized directly about the topic of the relationship.

Relationship Element & Critiques

Critic #3: ZK

Emulation feedback: She really liked the bamboo at the center, but she thought the theme was bamboo at first. Therefore she suggested me to add a title of the relationship graph to make the viewer clear about the topic. In addition, she thinks the font sizes on the lower left are different. So, she suggest me to change the font sizes to the same size to keep everything more united.

I added the title for the relationship to get rid of the confusion of the topic. I also make sure that the font sizes on the lower right are all the same. I also get rid of other information about raccoons and lesser panda because it is not very needed for the topic.

revisions:

This relationship display shows the evolution of bear, and it shows how giant pandas doesn't interact with other bear species, which causes the giant panda are so few in now days.

How this element exploits the visual potential of relationships: The root part of bamboo in the center in the ancestor for all the other bears and panda. And the dashed lines split to show the giant panda is in different from other bears.

How this element emulates the models:

To emulate my color model I used the black color for the text, dashed lines, and bamboo. The leaves emulates my model with the color of different greens from my model.

To emulate my visual language model I used dashed lines and not outlined icons of bamboo from my visual language model.

To emulate my typography model I used all caps and same font of annotations from my typography model.
